China to Loan South Sudan $8 Billion for Infrastructure Projects



China will provide South Sudan $8 billion in development loans over the next two years, a government spokesman said.
The loans will be used for road construction, agriculture, hydroelectricity, infrastructure and telecommunications, which would be built by Chinese companies, according to Barnaba Marial Benjamin, South Sudan’s government spokesman. He declined to reveal the cost of the borrowings.

Japan No Financial Plan Can Cause Deflation

Japan’s absence of “concrete reform plans” for the nation’s finances may be contributing to deflation and sluggish economic growth by discouraging spending by the public, central bank Governor Masaaki Shirakawa said.

Consumers may be limiting spending “on concerns over future fiscal developments,” Shirakawa said in remarks prepared for an event in Washington yesterday. This may be “one factor behind 

sluggish economic growth and mild deflation,” he said.
